Data Disclosure Plan

The Energy and Water Efficiency Ordinance will make public the annual energy and water use of all buildings in the City of Los Angeles over 20,000 square feet, including:

  • Summary stats on overall compliance;
  • Summary stats on overall energy and water consumption of buildings subject to the law; and
  • The performance status of each building covered by the law, including its Energy Score, property address and property type.

With the data, owners can compare their buildings to similar structures of the same type, and the City will be in a better position to advance its goals to improve energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Benchmarking is a first step to lowering energy costs and staying competitive. Angelenos ultimately are expected to save more than $368 million on utility bills annually because of the new ordinance. The savings will compound into the future as more buildings improve their efficiency.
